Hazelwood grew up around work. The Ford plant off Lindbergh and the McDonnell Douglas lines by the airport filled these streets with ranches, capes and split-levels between the early fifties and the late seventies. Those builders used red oak strip flooring as a matter of course, and buyers covered most of it with carpet inside a decade. Plenty of the homes we open up on Utz Lane, Teson Road and the blocks around St. Cin Park still have that oak sitting there in good shape. Tearing it out is usually the wrong call. Sanding it back is usually the right one.
The other half of the work in this city happens below grade. Nearly every Hazelwood house has a full basement, and the ones sitting low along the Coldwater Creek corridor toward Dunn Road have taken water more than once. That rules out solid wood down there and points to waterproof vinyl plank, carpet tile or ceramic instead. Upstairs, the Missouri summer does its own damage. Dew points in the seventies swell wood, January furnace air dries it back out, and a floor laid without acclimation or a real expansion gap will telegraph that movement by its second winter.
Veteran Flooring has worked this side of the county since 2015. The showroom at 149 Weldon Parkway in Maryland Heights sits about twelve minutes down I-270, with Hallmark, Portercraft and Fusion racks and samples you can carry to your car and look at in your own daylight. Dale owns the company, Erik handles measuring and quoting, and the refinishing crew is the same set of faces from the first visit to the last coat. We take residential and commercial work, we finance through Hearth and Synchrony, and the in-home measure costs nothing.

Hardwood flooring in Hazelwood, MO
Hardwood is the biggest thing we do in Hazelwood, and most of it is wood the homeowner already owns. Red oak strip runs under the carpet in a huge share of the ranches and split-levels built for Ford and McDonnell Douglas families. We sand it dustless, test stains on your own boards while you watch, and put down two or three coats. Where there is no oak to save, we install solid or engineered plank, and we match stair treads and landings to the main floor so the transition does not read as an afterthought.

Luxury vinyl plank in Hazelwood, MO
LVP is the standard answer for a Hazelwood basement. Homes near the Coldwater Creek bottoms and the low side of Frost Avenue see backup and seepage often enough that a waterproof rigid core is simply the sensible material. It also handles the traffic in rental duplexes near the airport and in finished lower levels that double as playrooms. We look at the slab first, grind or patch what is out of level, and pick a wear layer that suits the room rather than selling everyone the same thin builder plank.

Tile flooring in Hazelwood, MO
Tile earns its place at the front and back doors here. Hazelwood driveways get salted hard from December through February, and that slush comes inside on boots every day of the winter. Porcelain does not care. We tile entries, mudrooms, kitchens, basement bathrooms and the break rooms and restrooms in the commercial buildings along McDonnell Boulevard. Large format needs a flat substrate, so we check the floor with a straightedge before quoting and price any self leveler up front instead of surprising you mid job.

Carpet installation in Hazelwood, MO
Carpet still belongs in bedrooms and lower levels, and Hazelwood split-levels have plenty of both. We carry cut pile, textured and loop in a range that runs from landlord grade to something that will hold up to a family for a decade. Stairs get proper waterfall or upholstered installation, not staples and hope. For offices and light industrial space in the Aviator Business Park area we install carpet tile, which lets a facility manager swap out a damaged square instead of closing a whole suite.

Laminate flooring in Hazelwood, MO
Laminate is the honest budget choice, and we say so plainly. It gives you a wood look at a price that makes sense for a rental turnover near Lambert, a first house in Old Town Hazelwood, or a bedroom wing you plan to redo again in eight years. Modern high-AC-rated boards resist scratching better than the laminate people remember from the nineties. It needs a flat subfloor and a proper expansion gap around the perimeter, same as wood, and we do not skip either step to save an hour.

Old Town Hazelwood
The original blocks around Elm Grove Lane and Howdershell Road, with smaller frame and brick homes that predate the subdivision boom. Narrow rooms, older subfloors and the occasional pre-war fir floor worth saving.
Villa Ridge
Postwar ranches on flat lots with full basements. Almost all of them started with red oak strip in the living room and hall, and most of that oak went under carpet by the seventies.
Teson Road and Hazelwood West
Sixties and seventies split-levels and tri-levels. Short flights of stairs between every level, so tread work and clean transitions matter more here than anywhere else in the city.
Utz Lane and Frost Avenue
Capes and ranches under the Lambert flight path, many with replacement windows and doors from the airport sound program. Tight bedrooms, original hardwood in a lot of them.
Coldwater Creek corridor
The lower ground toward Dunn Road and the creek bottoms. Finished basements down here need waterproof plank, tile or carpet tile, and a sump that actually runs.
McDonnell Boulevard and Aviator Business Park
Offices, flex space and warehouse suites on and around the old Ford plant ground. Carpet tile, commercial LVT and sealed entry tile, usually installed on nights or weekends.

No. Our showroom is at 149 Weldon Parkway in Maryland Heights, roughly twelve minutes from most Hazelwood addresses by way of I-270 or Lindbergh. Hazelwood is one of our regular service areas, so the in-home measure and the written quote are free, and there is no travel or trip charge added to the job.
Often, yes. Builders working the Hazelwood subdivisions from the mid fifties through the mid seventies laid red oak strip as standard. Pull the carpet back in a bedroom closet corner, or lift a floor register and look at the edge of the cut. If you see tongue and groove strips rather than plywood, you likely have oak. Refinishing runs $3.50 to $6 per square foot.
Waterproof rigid core vinyl plank, ceramic or porcelain tile, or carpet tile. All three survive a wet event without being landfilled. We would not put solid hardwood or standard laminate below grade in that part of Hazelwood at any price. Fix the water source first, then we install over a properly prepped and dry slab.
We do. Commercial flooring is a standing part of our business, and the office and flex suites around McDonnell Boulevard and the Aviator Business Park are close to home for us. Carpet tile, commercial LVT, sheet goods and entry tile, scheduled around your operating hours so we are not tearing up a lobby at nine in the morning.
Plan on three to five days for a typical Hazelwood ranch, depending on square footage and how many coats of finish you choose. Most families stay, but they move out of the finished rooms and keep pets clear while coats cure. We sand dustless, we contain the work area, and Erik gives you the day by day schedule before we start.
