Carpet from our Maryland Heights showroom

Veteran Flooring has been laying carpet in Greater St. Louis homes since 2015, and most jobs start at the sample racks on Weldon Parkway. You can pull pieces off the wall, take a few home, and see how a color reads in your own light before anyone writes a number down. Plush, textured saxony, Berber loop, patterned cut-and-loop, nylon, polyester, wool - we keep the full spread on hand, and our own crew handles the measure, the tear-out and the stretch.

Installed carpet in this market runs $2.75 to $7.50 a square foot, and that includes new pad and hauling the old carpet out to the dumpster. Erik does the measure and the quote himself, so you get one written figure instead of a stack of line items that grow later. Book a free in-home measure and he will bring samples out to the house if walking the showroom is not convenient.

Matching the fiber to the room

The room decides the carpet, not the other way around. Bedrooms can take a soft, deep pile because nothing heavy moves across them. Hallways, landings and family rooms need a tighter twist that will not mat down in the traffic lane. Basements and houses with dogs do better on solution-dyed fiber, where the color runs all the way through the yarn and a hard cleanup does not leave a pale ghost behind on the floor.

  • Nylon - the toughest common fiber, and what we put in traffic lanes
  • Solution-dyed polyester - soft, forgiving with kids, easy to clean hard
  • Wool and wool blends - a premium hand and real resilience in a formal room
  • Berber loop - hard-wearing and affordable, though cats will find the loops
  • Textured and patterned cuts that hide vacuum tracks and winter footprints
  • Low, dense twists rated for carpeted stairs, where crushing at the nosing is the real enemy

Basements, water and the modular option

Almost every house around here has a basement, and a good share of them have taken water at least once - a backed-up drain, a sump that quit during a spring storm, a foundation crack after a wet week. Broadloom in that situation means tearing out a whole room. Modular carpet tile lets you pull the squares that got wet, dry the slab and drop replacements in. We keep it in stock for finished basements, rec rooms and lower-level offices for exactly that reason.

What the install day looks like

We pull the old carpet, pad and staples first, then look hard at what is underneath. Loose subfloor gets screwed down and squeaks get fixed before anything new covers them up. Then fresh eight-pound rebond pad, new tack strip, heat-bonded seams, and the carpet power-stretched rather than kicked into place, which is why floors ripple two summers later. Most single-story homes across St. Louis and the inner-ring suburbs are finished in a day, stairs included.

Carpet Flooring - frequently asked questions

A three-bedroom ranch with a hall is usually a one-day job, tear-out to final stretch. Add half a day if the stairs are part of it or if the subfloor needs repair. We move ordinary furniture ourselves. Pianos, gun safes and full aquariums are the exceptions, and we will tell you at the measure if we need you to arrange something.

Solution-dyed nylon or polyester in a low, tight twist. The color is built into the fiber instead of dyed onto it, so you can clean an accident hard without bleaching a light patch into the floor. Skip Berber loop if you have cats, because claws pull the loops and one snag runs. A lot of the reviews local homeowners left us come from pet households.

In almost every case, yes. Pad compresses under years of traffic and it holds humidity, which in a Missouri summer means it holds odor too. Reusing old pad also voids most carpet warranties, so the savings are not real savings. Fresh eight-pound rebond is priced into every quote we write.

That is a common find in older homes here, strip oak in decent shape hiding under 1970s shag. Carpet can go back over it with a no-staple method that leaves the boards intact. Before you decide, get a look at the wood. Refinishing what is already there runs $3.50 to $6 a square foot and sometimes costs less than new carpet.

Ask about our veteran discount and first responder discount when you schedule. They cannot be combined with other offers.
Usually, yes. A lot of St. Louis brick homes and mid-county ranches have red or white oak strip flooring sitting under old carpet. We pull up a corner, see how much wood is left above the nails, and sand with dust containment equipment. Before we commit to a color we test stains on your own floor, because oak in your light does not look like a sample in our showroom.
We do. We finance through Hearth and Synchrony, and you can apply before you pick a material so you know your budget while you shop. The application takes a few minutes and approval does not obligate you to anything. Call (314) 897-4383 and we will send you the link.
Our labor comes with a one-year workmanship warranty, and the flooring itself carries the manufacturer warranty that comes with the product you choose. If something is not sitting right, call the office or email veteranflooringstl@gmail.com and we will come look at it. Coming back to make it right is part of the job, not a favor.
