Chesterfield houses were built for hardwood. The two-story entries off Clarkson Road and Baxter Road open onto sight lines that run from the front door through the hall and into the great room, and a continuous wood floor is what makes that read as one space rather than four rooms. Carpet in those areas dates a house quickly. Homeowners here also entertain on the main level, and oak takes that traffic better than anything else in its price band.
